Droplets of Ideas . Funlets of Feelings . Riplets of Thoughts

Yoga does not belong to Indians anymore !?

Yoga! Anybody can tell hearing to this word, it’s from “INDIA” Right? Practiced and created by our Yogis since centuries. We have taken it granted. But I beg to differ now, I feel that only the word remains with us but the practices and popularity is all American…

Shocked? Distressed? Blood boiling…? Let me share …

As everybody knows that Yoga is a form of exercise that targets mind, body and soul. Here in America I was shocked it’s practiced so widely with gaining initial knowledge from us. They understood and exploited the real meaning of Yoga. Today they have commercialized it so much that you can find Yoga studios like Bikram Yoga, Pilates Yoga.

It’s offered as a class in all the major fitness centers. They have come up with Yoga Kits, Yoga DVD’s, Yoga cloths, Yoga Mats and free yoga classes. Recently in a summer open air concert, I saw an American lady performing Yoga asanas on stage with great ease and flexibility. She has been practicing it since 10 yrs.

Hello! WE are the ones who should better understand all the Sanskrit meaning of Pranayama, Padmasana or Sarvangasana or Vajrasana!! It’s being translated, understood, and then practiced.

Now coming to my point… Do we really have that kind of time for Yoga in day to day life in India? The Software generation is so busy meeting deadlines that they are least bothered about mind. body and forget about Soul !. We have everything written in books that we claim is our heritage but do we put it into action is the question? People in India don’t mind watching Ekta Kapoor’s Saas Bahu serials for hours but work on their body and mind…

That’s why I said… it’s a just a term remaining in our culture… But practice and benefits are all reaped by the West.

I have heard that yoga has cures to many diseases. Now that they have mastered the art, they are all striving to find cures.

What our Rishi’s and Maharshi’s claimed that they have power to cure with Yoga, its being done here. I am not preaching people to do Yoga or anything, but I am saying it’s worth an individual to give a try at home. We need not go to classes. (Although an exercises done with a group motivates people) It really relieves stress and gives you solace.

They have taken the Yoga basics and converted to fun and exciting exercises. Even I feel like doing it, despite my busy schedule. WHY? Because it’s projected as fun and its made interactive not as compulsory thing in life.
